  1. Despite Hillary’s public walk-back, some of her supporters are still on board:

Jamelle Bouie, “Slate’s” chief political correspondent, says:

” Readers don’t need to know whether Clinton made a “gaffe.” They need to know whether she was right. … Do roughly half of Donald Trump’s supporters fall into a so-called “basket of deplorables?” Yes.”

    http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2016/09/trump_s_basket_of_deplorables_hillary_clinton_was_right.html

Is there a shirt for folks like Jamelle? No, wait…”Black Lives Matter” would probably cover it.

  2. Heh. I love it. I used to give away bumper stickers that read “Proud member of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy”. I wonder if I have any left over somewhere in the attic?

  3. Thought I would see how Neo and the group react to the Deplorables. I never understood what an Alt-right is and being a reluctant Republican for a number of years, until now I have be unsure about describing myself and my feelings about the coming election. Now I have it, I am a Deplorable which is to say, a person who dislikes Trump slightly less than Clinton and knows a vote for Johnson will only help Clinton.

I would suspect that we will start seeing a number of ‘Deplorable’ bumper stickers. If I can get a ‘Deplorable Texan’ sticker I might put it on my pickup truck which would be the first time I have done that since a friend of mine ran for state auditor over 30 years ago.

I really like the fact that it appears Hillary is currently out-performing the Donald on the stupid mouth stuff.

  4. Great! I was hoping it would catch fire.

I sent the email quoted below to my address list. I hope some will find it amusing, and maybe circulate it further. Anything to keep the sense of outrage and disgust alive until Nov.

    subj: Deplorable Lives Matter

    A fanciful call to arms:

Deplorables of the U.S. unite! Power to the Deplorables!

Deplorables, take a page from the playbook of other minorities who feel insulted and abused by the elites. Organize Deplorable Chapters in your neighborhood–call them “Deplorable Baskets”. Fill the country with baskets of Deplorables. Make your voices heard. (But, be circumspect because as a Deplorable your utterances will be scrutinized, and the Department of Justice is always listening for deplorable rhetoric.)
Vote as Deplorable blocs. Consider following the deplorable practices of Progressives, and help your Deplorable ancestors vote if you live in a state that invites voting shenanigans. Caution: this is not an invitation to break the law–do not go beyond common practices of local Democrat voting officials.

Remember the deplorable words of President Barack Hussein Obama; “if they bring a knife to the fight, we, bring a gun”. Rhetorically speaking, of course.

    The time is now.

Endorse the Deplorable Manifesto; “All women and men are equal before God and the Law. The United States of America is composed of individuals with equal standing. Rights and benefits are accorded to individuals, and never to groups. Therefore, any government practice that bestows advantage on preferred individuals, or groups, that go beyond those available to each and every citizen is deplorable.”

Embrace the slogan “To avoid a deplorable future, join the Deplorables now.”.

(Anyone who does not know what I am talking about needs to pay more attention to what the Democrat candidate is saying about the millions of Deplorables in the country; i.e., those who do not support her.)

  5. Ok, I get it, hrc is deplorable. No argument there. But there is no there there. It is something we here know. Flip side of the coin is the donald. He is, and many (what percentage I do not know) of his base are also deplorable. Is djt 92, 81, 78, 64, 59 percent less deplorable than hrc? I will vote for the donald IF its very close in Iowa. That vote will be based upon the slim hope that djt is a few percentage points less deplorable than hrc or Uncle Joe.

  6. A long time ago; but, I remember when many on the left were proud “card-carrying members of the ACLU.”

Ha, I like these t-shirts you’ve linked to even better.

  7. I think I’m going with the #DeplorableLivesMatter as my favorite.

This line up of cartoons covers both memes from today,

but don’t forget to remember this one in re Hillary’s health problems (it’s kind of mean, but politicas ain’t beanbag, and she wanted to play):

  8. AesopFan:

I found it in the spam filter.

I have no idea why it went in there. It happens sometimes for seemingly random reasons.

  9. Nous sommes tout Deplorables! Why should the left have all the good slogans? I have been walking around all day saying this in my best guttural French gangster accent. Nooo summ tooo day-plorrr-ahhhbles.

  10. The anti-Trumpsters are stuck on stupid, to use the memorable phrase coined by Gen. Honore after hurricane Katrina.

  11. Gawd, I love America.
What other country would find a way to monetize mockery of The Elite Leadership?

  12. And these “elites” are always “deploring” unwanted behaviors (violence, gun ownership, irresponsible sex, smoking, use of fossil fuels, etc.) all the while practicing the same behaviors in elite privacy, of course, for the sake of the children. Our very own befuddled and dense Marie Antoinette managed to hit the perfect phraseology.

  13. OldTexan – Trust me, if you’ve got a pickup truck with Texas license plates, you don’t need to add a bumper sticker to be counted among the deplorables.

  14. I don’t know what the percentage is, but I’ve run into a number of Trump supporters (not the reluctant ones I mostly see on this site) who are some of the worst people in the world. Like the charming lady with the swastika on her forehead, or the commenter (here) calmly and patiently describing to me why black people are worse than white people (in his defense he’s from another country). Or the awful people still spreading the Cruz sex scandal rumors and posting p0rnographic tweets to the TL of one of the women “implicated”.

Many of you will vote for him, often reluctantly, and I understand that. Just know who else you’re voting for (because the racist alt-right thugs will also win and win big if DJT wins).

    I hate this election year.

  15. Bill:

They absolutely exist, but (as I wrote in my post on the subject) it is highly unlikely they amount to half, and the way Hillary phrased it made it seem that she was also indicting huge numbers of people who hold fairly mainstream ideas.

  16. Clinton is Pro-Choice. Whether it is class diversity schemes (e.g. racism), female chauvinism, anti-native policies, progressive wars, or abortion rites, there are millions of deplorables in America alone.

  17. I live in a solid blue state, which would have allowed me to vote for Gary Johnson without changing the election. That was my plan until the “basket of deplorables” speech. Now I’m voting Trump: it still won’t affect the election, but suddenly it’s more consistent with the message I want to send.

  18. “OldTexan — Trust me, if you’ve got a pickup truck with Texas license plates, you don’t need to add a bumper sticker to be counted among the deplorables.” – Nick

    Nick, you go too far.

There are many good and honest people around the country who are very reluctantly supporting trump.

Many, whom I encounter IRL, who are reluctant, readily acknowledge how trump plays to these kinds of people and shake their head at it.

They know well the difference between being un-PC and being deplorable. They won’t be wearing any shirts or bumper stickers aligning themselves with those kinds of folks any time soon.

clinton may have exaggerated, as the left usually does, and it is unfair to say the least, but there is an element of truth to it that they don’t want to be a part of.

  19. “I live in a solid blue state, which would have allowed me to vote for Gary Johnson without changing the election. That was my plan until the “basket of deplorables” speech. Now I’m voting Trump:” – Dr Mist

If this is what switched you to trump, it didn’t take much, it seems, as this is not unusual coming from a Dem POTUS candidate.

  20. “But in fact, Mike Pence hasn’t changed one bit. He’s always been a bigot, backing positions and ideas that displayed animus for classes of people.” – Huff Post

    Let the tainting begin.

  21. Regardless of politics, I think many can agree that this week–along with this entire presidential campaign–has felt interminably long.

Donald Trump provided an unexpected dose of inspiration for women at the end of Wednesday night’s presidential debate. In the midst of Hillary Clinton’s explanation of how she planned to raise taxes on the wealthy, he was unable to restrain himself. He leaned into his microphone and mouth-breathed: “Such a nasty woman.”
