Fall: past peak

The leaves aren’t quite what they were just a week ago. But although there are fewer of them, some very beautiful ones still remain.

It’s windy, and you can feel a nip in the air.

Here are some photos I took this past weekend:

BEREFT
– by Robert Frost

Where had I heard this wind before
Change like this to a deeper roar?
What would it take my standing there for,
Holding open a restive door,
Looking down hill to a frothy shore?
Summer was past and the day was past.
Sombre clouds in the west were massed.
Out on the porch’s sagging floor,
Leaves got up in a coil and hissed,
Blindly struck at my knee and missed.
Something sinister in the tone
Told me my secret must be known:
Word I was in the house alone
Somehow must have gotten abroad,
Word I was in my life alone,
Word I had no one left but God.

    My favorite season.

Me too T. The intense blue sky, colorful leaves floating on a crisp breeze, and the way everyone smilin when I walk the dogs; October as no equal, but April is a close second.

Nice shine and shadows on the basket of apples.

    Azulão

    Vai, Azulão, Azulão, companheiro, vai!
    Vai ver minha ingrata,
    Diz que sem ela
O sertão não é mais sertão!
    Ai! Võa Azulão,
    Vai contar companheiro, vai!

More nice pictures. The harvest is over. Fall ’tis Nature’s way of saying WINTER’s coming. The world transitions from bursting life to the time when nature rests, getting ready to bring forth the renewal of spring.

And winter’s not so bad, if you have the right mind set.

    A WINTER PRAYER
    by Max Erhmann

    Cold lies the lifeless earth,
the birds are gone, and through
the naked trees the shrill wind
    whistles. Though the world
outside be chill and dead, may the
    world within us resound
with gleeful songs, and our hearts
be warm with hope and love.
    And may many an evening’s
    merriment, beside the
    hearthstone’s cheerful glow, make
    sweet the passing time.

  6. AesopFan Says:

I went with a friend to the Botanical Gardens this afternoon late. As we approached one of the larger trees, with the sun behind our backs, a literal shower of golden leaves sifted down onto the path in front of us, a cloud nearly 6 feet from one side to the other. The fall lasted for about 20 seconds, long enough to register, but not so long we could whip out our cameras and take a video.
    Which is okay.

  7. parker Says:

“Across the evening sky, all the birds are leaving
But how can they know it’s time for them to go?
Before the winter fire, I will still be dreaming
I do not count the time.”

    Sandy Denny
