CBS deceives about the racial angle of the Chicago torture story

And it’s not even subtle about it. An error of this magnitude and type is no “error’ at all:

A CBS Radio News report on the horrific black-on-white torture case in Chicago falsely implied that the victim was black and his attackers were white, Mediaite reported.

The viral video of a beating and knife attack in Chicago suggests the assault had racial overtones. CBS’s Dean Reynolds tells us the victim is described as a mentally-challenged teenager.

In the video he is choked and repeatedly called the n-word. His clothes are slashed and he is terrorized with a knife. His alleged captors repeatedly reference Donald Trump. Police are holding four people in connection with the attack.

As Alex Griswold at Mediaite noted, the report, while technically correct, was very misleading.

The n-word was indeed used to refer to the victim, but only in the more neutral sense that is often used in black vernacular. Omitted from the report are details that would [have] corrected that misapprehension. Most obviously, the report could have simply stated the attackers’ and victim’s races. But it also neglected to clarify that the “reference” to Donald Trump was “F*** Donald Trump,” and neglected completely the fact that the attackers yelled “F*** white people.”

Here’s the audio.

    CBS:

Dan Rather and the Bush Air National Guard “records”…

Their “reporting” on the Zimmerman-Trayvon affair which features a reconstruction showing a standing Zimmerman gunning down a child in short pants from a distance.

    These are not accidental.

  2. Sam L. Says:

CBS whitewashed the assailants? And blackened the victim? Why am I not surprised?

  3. parker Says:

Public trust of the msm continues to plummet. This is another sign that the msm talking heads should be on a suicide watch. The video of the crime went viral. Tens of millions have seen it and even the CPD had to relent and call it a hate crime. This latest example of CBS fake news is now well known. Nothing like digging a hole deeper.

Yes, many on the left will play the 3 monkeys, but it seems there is a change of direction going on.

  4. Big Maq Says:

Perhaps there is a change afoot… Even the left leaning piers morgan called it what it was.

    But tavis frowny laments…

“See how swift justice is dispensed when the perpetrators, rather than the victims, are black.”

    Then, looks elsewhere to blame…

“how do you think these kids came up with the idea to broadcast this wicked torture scenario?”

No mention that maybe there has been a culture of
acceptance and/or wilful blindness to some of the contributing messages and behaviors.

Guys like tavis want to perpetuate a victimhood mentality rather than have anything like an “honest” conversation.

  5. parker Says:

Their ‘honest’ converaation is encapsulated in two words “Tawana Brawley”.

  6. Yackums Says:

    Shorter CBS:

Our news isn’t fake…your reality is!

  7. T Says:

Furthermore, in a captured Tweet posted on Instapundit today (by Stephen Green @ 1:03):

The tweet is about moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem and includes the editorial (not meant for publication) comment:

should we slip in somewhere high up a ref to the attack this weekend, i think we should showing how the place is already a city of high tension blah blah — Yes . . .

As Green comments: “This is how the narrative is crafted.” As more and more of this becomes public (thanks to the internet) that’s how one gets more Trump.

. . . because being a victim provides the greatest current cultural and political leverage.

The founders feared the tyranny of the majority, but failed to foresee a tyranny by the minority. We live in a culture where a single claim of victimization, no matter how valid or outlandish, creates severe repercussions for any alleged oppressor. The most outlandish claims are given the same weight as serious claims and we’ve devolved from “guilty as charged” to “guilty because charged.”

“because being a victim provides the greatest current cultural and political leverage.” – T

    Right.

Sadly, not missed on me that many on the right play that same game, too.

Everyone, ultimately, has some reason for a claim of victim status.

Seems like Gen Mattis sees similar. I like his attitude. – Found this when reading Martin van Creveld, on Parker’s endorsement in a recent comment…

“If we tell our veterans enough that this is what is wrong with them they may actually start believing it.

While victimhood in America is exalted I don’t think our veterans should join those ranks.

There is no room for military people, including our veterans, to see themselves as victims even if so many of our countrymen are prone to relish that role.
    http://www.martin-van-creveld.com/

There’s not enough room for everyone to play the victim. It is ultimately a losing game for all of us.

Haven’t ever seen where it really helps anyone other than benefit those who want to perpetuate that line of thinking / behavior.

It begins by not expecting responsible behavior of everyone, or, worse, excusing bad behavior, and attempting to hide rather than call out that behavior.
