Two promising chess-playing siblings [from Iran] have been banned from [national chess] tournaments…after the sister failed to wear a hijab and her brother played an Israeli.
Dorsa and Borna Derakhshani, two of the country’s leading youth chess players, were told they can no longer be part of the national team.
Dorsa, an 18-year-old student in Spain, was banned after she did not wear a head covering during the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival earlier this month.
Her 15-year-old brother, Borna, who still lives in Iran, was told he couldn’t compete after playing a match against Israeli chess player Alexander Husman during the same tournament.

One American champion is voicing her opposition to “women’s oppression” by boycotting the women’s world chess championship in Iran rather than bow to Iranian demands that she wear a hijab, or headscarf.
“By participating, I would be forced to submit to forms of oppression designed specifically for women,” Nazé Paikidze insisted. “It sets the wrong example, particularly for young girls interested in chess.”
Paikidze, the current U.S. chess champion, could be competing for up to $100,000 in prize money. However, she has refused to attend the event.
“I will NOT wear a hijab and support women’s oppression,” she said. “Even if it means missing one of the most important competitions of my career.”
She retweeted an image of Swedish competitors with headscarves competing in Iran…
“I think it’s unacceptable to host a WOMEN’S World Championship in a place where women do not have basic fundamental rights and are treated as second-class citizens,” she has said in an Instagram post. “For those saying that I don’t know anything about Iran: I have received the most support and gratitude from the people of Iran, who are facing this situation every day.”
She also noted that she is not against the people of Iran, but the laws of Iran.
“A message to the people of Iran: I am not anti-Islam or any other religion. I stand for freedom of religion and choice. I’m protesting (the world chess federation’s) decision not because of Iran’s religion or people, but for the government’s laws that are restricting my rights as a woman,” she also posted on Instagram.

The sudden craze about wearing the hijab as a protest measure is pretty conclusive proof that the Left has gone utterly insane and is betraying one of its stated core principles.

NO! The Mullahs are simply following the highly specific, non-negotiable commands of Allah.
If you dispute this, then you are declaring Muhammad to have either been a liar or deluded in his claim that Allah is the Qur’an’s author. In which case, Islam’s theological foundations collapse.
Meanwhile, Marine le Pen is under new charges of racism, for refusing to wear a hijab when ordered to, and walking out on her meeting instead.

The Swedish government, meanwhile, continues to defend wearing the hijab when meeting with Iran, stating that Iran has a history of ignoring diplomatic immunity and rule of law, while Saudi Arabia, where the same officials were lauded for refusing to wear the hijab in violation of Saudi law, does not.

This sounds like me back in 2010, for some reason.
To clarify the previous up comment, the Left is neither sane nor insane. To be either, they need to be human and have a mental state first.
The last two are still debatable and in argument, and I would argue one way vs another.
Compared to fake feminists and those using feminism as a quickie sexual trap for megalomaniac Leftists, those that take up the cross and make an actual sacrifice for their cause, is worthy of note.

Paikidze – name looks Georgian. Georgia was the first country to adopt Christianity as the state religion, and is only a couple of hundred miles from Iran. No love lost between the two, I’d guess.

Last night, out of nowhere, for the first time in 10-12 years at least, I looked up a free online site where I could play chess vs the computer. Nothing whatsoever goaded me to do this. Years ago, because of MS, they used to test my cognitive function by such things as asking me to count backwards from 100 by 7s, as fast as I could aloud. I went from there to playing chess with the computer, even getting a Kasparov chess computer at one point.
But the Kasparov broke, and I stopped playing chess late at night when I was married…. and then forgot about it until last night. (The computer smoked me, by the way.)
Now, today, here is this piece. Hmm.

It’s true – Muslims are being treated like pets by the Left, and the misogyny of radical Islam is shrugged off the same way inner-city criminality is excused. The hijab is an offensive garment. I used to live in a Muslim country, and the hijab is an extremely political and misogynist piece of clothing.
It’s an unbelievably offensive garment, and I cannot believe that it’s being turned into fashionable protest gear – but that seems to be what’s happening in protest circles today. Sigh.

After 9-11 I noticed a blogger who called herself “Irangirl.” She seemed to be that — a young female Iranian who blogged.
When the US and allies invaded Iraq, she celebrated for the Iraqis then said, “Us next, please.”
I haven’t seen her name in years. I’ve tried to google for her wihtout success. I hope she is still alive and not in prison.
