Congenital cataracts are a big part of what 20/20/20 deals with. Cataracts tend to be a problem of the elderly, but the problem of congenital cataracts in children isn’t so well-known. Here’s the scoop on the surgery; it’s not as simple as you might think.
A month or so ago I saw a documentary on tv about doctors doing this surgery to restore sight to the blind in North Korea. I think Lisa Ling was the commentator. Anyway, the first thing the formerly blind people did was run over to a portrait of of the Dear Leader and start genuflecting and thanking him for their sight. They are a couple of generations into the cult and the general consenus of the documentary seemed to be that the worship of Dear Leader was not feigned.
The Assistance Fund is another great place. They’ve been greatly helping me obtain Beta Interferon 1a which is not covered by Medicare Part D but retards Multiple Schlerosis as it inexorably proceeds, incurable and progressive — the Beta Interferon 1a has slowed this process down to a point where I would be terrified to find out what would happen if the weekly injection were to suddenly become unavailable to me.
