Melania and Sophia — 12 Comments

  1. if Melania had been a wife of a democrat president she would have been put on a pedestal by the progressives as the ultimate embodiment of America’s inclusiveness of immigrants and a tangible example of someone who has achieved the American Dream. Images of her would be ubiquitous in the Media and her impact on fashion and feminism would be historical. Oh well, too bad she married the wrong husband, now she will go down the history as a Cleopatra like character marrying the most evil man in the history of man kind and will be mocked by the left for eternity.

They said my nose was too long and my mouth was too big’: Sophia Loren admits she was pressured to have surgery as a young actress

so much for she has it more.
    she doesnt.
    natural trumps fake
    (pun intended)

Did you actually read the Loren article you linked?

Loren did not have any plastic surgery when a young actress. If she had any at all, it was as an elderly woman, although it’s not even clear that she had it then.

But her earlier look was all natural, despite the pressure.

On the other hand, you can find sites purporting to show that Melania has had surgery. I don’t have an opinion as to whether that is true or not.

  4. I am an old man and I fell in love with Sophia Loren when I was 13 and watched her help drag a cannon across a mountain in the movie The Pride and the Passion. I had no idea who was fighting and what they were fighting about but I was in love, I also liked all the swords and knives.

The beautiful face and the incredible curves have no equal in my opinion, the are lots of lovely women but Sophia has a unique sultry sexiness that is different for the gorgeous perfection of some, Grace Kelly and wonderful silly sexiness of others, Marilyn Monroe. Anyway that’s just me.

As for Melania she comes close on the beauty part and she is somewhat set apart from the other beautiful women models and actors but that’s about it. She appears to be a good wife and mother and she is elegant and that’s about all I have to say about that, she is no Sophia.

  5. Coincidentally, I saw a short excerpt of It Happened in Naples last night, including Sophia Loren performing in Americano. Delightful.

  6. As a typical male teenager with roaring hormones, needless to say one can imagine my reaction when I first cast my eyes on the young Sophia Loren 50+ years ago.

  7. OldTexan,

Sophia was the fantasy of many teenage boys. She was gorgeous and had a certain je ne sais quoi that few actresses can bring to the silver screen. She has aged well and gracefully.

Melania is beautiful and I admire her poise as she grows in her role as First Lady. She seems to understand her role far better than 2 First Ladies that need not be named.

Neo notes the importance of posture, and I agree that good posture is an important ingredient for a classy image.

  8. Parker I could not agree more about the posture.

My daughter who is 39 has a wonderful posture and neck as well as her 14 year old daughter who is a dancer. Both have that graceful neck and head thing going on just like my ex who was a ballet major in college. I am so glad she did not get my slouchy let gravity take over posture.

By the way my daughter works in the art gallery business and she is aquatinted with the photographer who took the bad picture of Giffords with the head. She is upset with the picture and concerned about his clients reaction which never occurred to me.

  9. There is a great Italian pizza parlor near my house. They also have pasta, gelato, and a few other ethic essentials. At the cash register there is a framed group of four photos.

At the top of the frame it says “Typical Anglo Saxon Couple” with photos of a middle aged William F. Buckley and Queen Elizabeth below. In the middle it says “Typical Italian Couple” with photos of a young and gorgeous Sophia Loren and perhaps a young Alain Delon. Yeah, Delon is French, but I always find it funny anyway.

Actually, Alain Delon is French, German and Italian.

Ha. I remember seeing that movie as a kid, on TV .

There was this kind of normal guy, and a bunch of smelly looking people he was with, fighting guys dressed up like wooden soldiers. There was lots of Big Vista scenery with spectacular evening skies. Unless those skies were part another movie where Charlton Heston got his saddle chopped to pieces by some evil looking fellow.

At the end the girl, who the normal guy liked, joined a suicidal mob attacking a fort. Somehow the mob of dirty people overwhelmed the toy soldier guys, but the girl died anyway.

Naw, they sure don’t make movies like that any more.

  11. By the way …

Looked for the whole movie for the Texan. Couldn’t find it.

This clip is interesting though. Shows how Martial Music and Explosions cover for a lot of implausibilities.

For example, look at the guys putting the cannon ball in the muzzle of the cannon up over their heads. Cast iron weighs about 500 lbs a cubic foot. If that is an 18″ diameter ball, it weight almost 900 pounds. Golly …

On the other hand you have Sophia Loren crawling toward the camera wearing a peasant blouse, so it kind of balances out.
