Release of American student from North Korea
I hadn’t followed this story, but it sounds horrendous:
University of Virginia student Otto Warmbier has been medically evacuated from North Korea in a coma after being detained for 17 months, his parents told The Washington Post on Tuesday.
Warmbier, 22, is due to arrive home in Cincinnati on Tuesday evening, after a stop at a U.S. military facility near Sapporo, Japan.
The family said they were informed that North Korean officials had told American envoys that Warmbier became ill with botulism sometime after his March, 2016, trial in North Korea, where he was serving a 15-year-sentence for “hostile acts against the state.”
The North Korean account, the family said, claimed Warmbier then fell into a coma after being given a sleeping pill. The Warmbiers said they were told their son has remained in a coma since then.

I’m sorry for the guy. But why the hell would any American ever go to North Korea? ?? Further what parent would allow their college age kid to go there?? The mental processes of some people are beyond my comprehension.
This release occurred simultaneously with the arrival of truly weird Dennis Rodman in Pyongyang. Fat Boy hearts Rodman.
I too hope for recovery, but given the depravity of the NK junta, it may turn out that the damage is irreversible. Why anyone, other than weirdos like Rodman, travels to NK without several battalions of marines, several Seal teams, 2 carries off shore, and bombers circling overhead is a mystery to me.
IIRC, the kid was arrested for trying to take a poster off ov a wall to take home. Guess the Norks don’t have gift shops for tourists. Gulags, but not gift boutiques. Charming place….

And people kept telling me Democrats were good boys that we can tolerate to exist by losing a few elections to them.

Try to elect a dead body back to life again, see how that works.
He went to North Korea, with intent committed a crime, was tried and sentenced.
Not sure why he’s worth the taxpayer dollars to pay the State Department employees to work out his release.
