Cosby mistrial declared—this time — 12 Comments

  1. What a sad, sorry, son-of-a-bitch being a creepy old man with such a creepy past when most all of us loved his wonderful comedy work and what we thought was a first class man. I am not sure if I would have found him guilty on these specific charges and it seems strange to put an old partially blind ruined guy on trial for diddling around in 2003.

In the 60’s overseas we loved his LP party records especially when he did the routine of Noah getting instructions from G-d to build an Ark. All of that stuff was great. In the early 1980’s before he had his TV show he was the entertainment at a trade show banquet I attended in Anaheim and he was great. He kept us in stitches for over an hour and afterwards he stayed around visiting with lots of fine young ladies lined up to shake his hand.

When I was leaving to go back to my hotel I noticed his Mercedes was parked out in front with his personalized license plate, I remember it said The Coz or something like that. I thought it was nice how he liked to stay a visit but maybe he was making a special friend, I don’t know.

He was an avid fountain pen collector and while I never met Cosby I knew others who worked with him and had a strong friendship and they told me in the past few years how devastated they were to hear about the his dark side. The stuff he as admitted is enough and then you add in the creepy drug stuff and I am thinking ‘what the hell?’

The mystery to me is how a fantastic celebrity who could attract a lot of groupies would need to use drugs and incapacitate his partners. What a sorry sad way, for a man who could be a fine role model for so many young men, to treat women.

Turns out that the Old Dr. Cos is actually a ‘train wreck’ of a person and I am not sure if I have anger, disgust or pity since he is just a husk of a man most all of us used to hold up as super wonderful guy.

  2. Indeed – the comedy records were gold … and he was so amazingly popular that you would think he had sufficient of willing groupies that he didn’t need to force himself on the drugged and willing.
A sad shadow on a man who was an icon of comedy.

    * * *
Remember the good stuff and let the rest go.
All of us have our problems, but the rich and famous have more temptations than most of us do.

    “Riiiiight. What’s an Ark?”

  4. Not a fan in any way, shape, or form of Gloria Allred, but she did say something that I thought was true, and that was when she pointed out the influence of the “blinding power of celebrity” in this case.

The memory of how Cosby came across in public, his genial, wise, and moral public persona, and the sterling characters he played as an actor, made it impossible for the jurors to imagine that he was the type of person who would commit the crimes he was accused of.

Moreover, his celebrity and power in the Entertainment Industry made his victims–often in the Entertainment Industry themselves, and struggling to gain a foothold in it–hesitate to accuse him, and made his threats against them very believable.

  5. I am not defending Cosby here, because there certainly was plenty of indefensible behavior, as I have just read in a “timeline” put together from the accusations. Sounds terrible; was terrible.

The series of assaults (have to insert “alleged” here, given the trial outcome) started in the mid-1960s (8 counts) after he made it to prime-time TV in “I Spy” (loved that show, btw); 1970s (15); 1980s (17); 1990s (4).

Some of the victims told other people and were advised to just keep it quiet; others never told anyone until —
2004: Cosby delivers the “pound cake” speech taking the Black community to task for failing as parents and mentors.
“Cosby gives a speech as part of an NAACP commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education segregation case. He blames petty crime on bad parenting:”

THEN “In 2005, Andrea Constand tells police that Cosby assaulted her a year earlier at his mansion in Cheltenham, Penn. The former Temple University employee said he invited her home after a dinner, gave her pills for stress and tension, then helped her to a sofa when she became dizzy and sick. She awoke with her clothing in disarray. She said she drove herself home and decided not to report what happened to police because of Cosby’s fame and her position as a women’s basketball administrator. Instead, she said she contacted a lawyer. ” — and settled her lawsuit out of court (Cosby did NOT stand trial in a criminal rape case).

Same story as most of them, drugged and assaulted, and they all thought: “who would believe me?” —
Again, not defending – I have no doubt he did what was alleged, and repeated it because no one challenged him at the beginning.

But there is no question that plenty of people knew what Cosby was doing – they believed what the victims were saying — and yet for 40 years NO ONE said anything about it publicly, even people (not the victims themselves) to whom Cosby was no immediate threat.

Except to their livelihoods, of course.
And then he crossed the line and challenged the Narrative.

But then the Left let that challenge lie dormant for another decade.

“When Bill Cosby delivered a speech at an NAACP event commemorating the 50th anniversary of Brown vs. Board of Education in 2004, he probably imagined it would be controversial. After all, in his remarks the legendary comedian urged his fellow African Americans to stop blaming racism for their woes and lashed out at single mothers, low-slung pants and names like Shaniqua — among other perceived societal menaces.

But he probably never imagined how it would play a pivotal role in his fall from grace 11 years later.

As dozens of women have come forward over the last year [2014] accusing Cosby of sexual assault, many observers have pointed to the so-called “Pound Cake” speech as evidence of Cosby’s alleged hypocrisy.”

(Of course, Bill Clinton and Roman Polanski weren’t hypocrites, so what they did wasn’t rape rape, as Whoopi schooled us.)

“In January 2014, The New York Times publishes an open letter by Dylan Farrow accusing another celebrity – her stepfather, Woody Allen – of abusing her as a child. Newsweek magazine follows in February, reviving the allegations from the one-time “Jane Does,” publishing interviews in February with Green and Bowman.

Comedian Hannibal Buress makes “you rape women, Bill Cosby” a laugh line in his standup routine. Cosby’s planned return to television begins to implode.

Bowman then writes in The Washington Post that “Cosby had drugged and raped me, too.” Her Nov. 13 essay questions why it took a male comedian’s comments to create the public outcry.”

Why? Because he was about to go back out and take the stage again — and the Left couldn’t have that.

“Fixing this problem demands more than public shaming. For Cosby to commit these assaults against multiple victims over several years, there had to be a network of willfully blind wallflowers at best, or people willing to aid him in committing these sexual crimes at worst. As I told the Daily Mail, when I was a teenager, his assistants transported me to hotels and events to meet him. When I blacked out at Cosby’s home, there were several staffers with us. My agent, who introduced me to Cosby, had me take a pregnancy test when I returned from my last trip with him. Talent agents, hotel staff, personal assistants and others who knowingly made arrangements for Cosby’s criminal acts or overlooked them should be held equally accountable.”

But they won’t be, even if Cosby had been found guilty as charged. They are not the target.

  6. This is akin to pedo-Hollywood… a bigger scandal than the Roman Catholic church.

The baseball assassin appears to have been a murdering paedophile, too.

His 17 year old foster daughter committed suicide by immolation while sitting at the controls of her vehicle.

Which smells like a raped and murdered victim.

She’d been with him less than two-months.

  7. While I do not have any facts pro or con Cosby, and have no position on his trial or retrial, I do observe there are PC links to this event in the continuing dominance of women, women as victims, feminism, feminazis, and moral relativity.
It is apparent that what Cos did or allegedly did is a crime of greater magnitude than killing one’s own unborn, which is a “right’.

  8. Cosby probably promised roles, connections and opportunities in exchange for sex from these wannabe actresses and did not deliver, thus prompting these women to publicly make these accusations against him to get even. this is a very common practice in entertainment industries everywhere. Jackie chan is notorious in Hong Kong for allegedly only offering roles to actresses who were willing to sleep with him somehow the feminist Hollywood didn’t seem to mind his infamous mistreatments of women and gave him a lifetime achievement award last year anyway. Everyone in Hong Kong hates Jackie chan, he is like Hong Kong’s bill Cosby. Allededly he would destroy an actress’ career if someone with dignity denied his advance, because he is so powerful in Hong Kong film industry he has the pull to pressure the whole industry not to use a certain actress in his choosing. A truly despicable person, but because he said virtuous things the Hollywood, a place like every other liberal stronghold where you are only judged by what you say not what you do still admire and embrace him even he is disrespected in the place where he made his name.

  9. Cosby is a freak but make no mistake about it if he remained a die hard democrat and not preaching to black youth to better behave themselves none of these witch hunt trials would have happened, he would be very well protected like bill Clinton Anthony wiener and the whole liberal Hollywood.

  10. The vilest tactic the democrats deploy to keep their members in check is that they would actually encourage their members to commit crimes and offer protection in exchange for their utmost loyalty. They would threaten you of taking those protections away and expose your crime to the public if you ever ponder not to toe the party line.
